Half Day Cafe
Just a short plane ride from LA and I'm back in Marin, but the Quest for the best french toast never ceases. Today, I headed over with some friends to Kentfield's Half Day Cafe. The restaurant is cute, really basic looking. I was going to have a light breakfast, but surprise surprise, guess who serves French Toast? The menu reads: Brioche French Toast in a coffee-Kahlua batter, served with orange butter. I was really excited for the coffee-Kahlua, but that flavor was totally missing on me. As for the orange butter, I wasn't really jiving with it, but I appreciate the attempt. When my breakfast first came, I'd stolen some of my friend's hash browns and salted them on my plate. When I was rubbing my bite of French Toast on the plate to pick up some syrup, it picked up some salt and made it drastically better. It was good in the beginning, but this hint of salt made it really good. I'm also kind of a salt fanatic, so I wouldn't go dumping a bunch of salt on your Half Day french toast, but try a little and tell me if I'm wrong. I usually only eat three pieces of toast, but this morning I had four. The toast was just a really good texture. I enjoyed it.
