Number 1?!
Have I found it? The worlds best French toast. For now the answer is yes, but the quest will continue. Located in downtown LA is Grand Central Market. Let me preface by saying this place is fat. I could get lost in the isles of different trendy food booths for hours. What brought me to Grand Central was my best friends recommendation of EggSlut. However, what she forgot to inform me about was the obnoxiously long line that was “worth the wait.” I, unfortunately, did not have time to wait, so I headed across the warehouse to a place called Valerie Confections. Let me tell you, I almost did not order French toast. This is not because my allegiance to French toast is wavering in anyway, but more because I’ve eaten French toast four times in the last nine days and it’s starting to show. Regardless of my physique, the decision to order French toast was a good one. When I saw my breakfast arrive in front of me, I knew it was going to challenge my top runners. This thing smelled amazing. The toast was thicker than I’ve ever seen any toast. Made on brioche bread and thoroughly soaked, it was the perfect combination of soft and firm. Even my sister who fanatically hates every food except for chicken strips and cucumber rolls, ate an entire piece. If you’ve ever had Belgian waffles from a waffle truck, this French toast had a similar composition. With its tough crust and soft but not runny middle, vanilla taste, and sugar crunch, this French sky rocketed to the top of my list. Of course, the quest will continue, but for now Valerie, you hold top spot.
